  • Brad Rutledge, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Rutledge is the original owner of Troutman Animal Hospital. He started the team on January 2, 1985. He loves the relationships with the pets and their families that develop over time and doing all that we can to help pets live healthy happy lives.

    He resides in Troutman with his wife, Debbie, two dogs, Dirk and Betsy, and a cat, Itty Bitty. He enjoys watching (and some playing) sports, especially when his children and grandchildren are playing. He especially loves spending time with his family and church and related activities.

  • Brittany Novosad, DVM

    Practice Owner

    Dr. Brittany Novosad is originally from Dayton, Ohio and cheered for the Buckeyes at Ohio State where she received both her BS and doctorate degrees. In 2007, she decided to leave the cold weather and opted to head south, joining a small animal practice in Concord. Dr. Novosad became a veterinarian because she loves fostering the special connection between people and their beloved pets. She also appreciates the ongoing learning and challenges that the profession provides.

    Dr. Novosad currently resides in Mooresville with her husband, two children, three dogs; Brinks, Luna, and Reyna, and her cat, Ellie. She enjoys reading, hiking, camping, gardening and spending time with her family.

    Dr. Novosad became the owner of our practice in July 2020. She hopes to continue to grow a quality hospital and build on the fundamental principles created by Dr. Rutledge.

  • Tim Ulrich, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Ulrich has been a part of the team since 1993. He attended Kansas State University and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. Dr. Ulrich works part-time and considers Troutman Animal Hospital his home away from home. He loves both our staff and clients.

    Dr. Ulrich resides in Mooresville with his wife, Paula, and three cats. He has several adult children and enjoys reading, sports, and traveling.

  • Trixie Martin, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Martin joined our team in 2018. A native of Alabama, Dr Martin attended Auburn university for undergrad and veterinary school. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.  At that time, she moved to Salisbury, NC where she practiced small animal medicine for ten years.  She then owned and operated a spay and neuter clinic in Greensboro for seven years, before returning to private practice here at Troutman Animal Hospital. She still loves surgery and is happy to be in a private practice where she is eager to care for pets from birth through adulthood.

    Dr Martin is proud to call North Carolina her home. She resides in Salisbury on a small hobby farm with her husband, Jonny, and their many turkeys, ducks, geese, and chickens.

  • Kathy Knodel, DVM

    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Kathy Knodel is originally from South Dakota. She moved to Mooresville after graduating from the veterinary college at Iowa State University in 1986. She owned a local relief practice for 35 years, and worked as a relief veterinarian for us for many years, prior to joining our team in 2022. She is excited about joining our team and loves helping people by helping their pets. 

    Dr. Knodel resides in Mooresville with her three dogs and two cats. During her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and participating in church activities.

  • Conya, CVPM

    Practice Manager

    Conya joined our team in 2018. She began her career in the veterinary industry in 1991 at a practice in Memphis, TN. She holds a degree in business administration and is a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager. She enjoys leading the team and finding ways to better service our clients and patients. 

    Conya currently resides in Mooresville with her husband, Jason, two dogs, and two cats. She has one daughter, three grandchildren, and enjoys reading, watching football, and traveling to new places.

    Assistant Manager

    Jackie joined our team in 2006. She was our patient care coordinator for many years before being promoted to assistant manager. She loves meeting, training, and educating people on quality patient care.  

    She currently resides in Statesville with her husband, daughter, and many pets, including Leo, a 25-year old Blue-Crowned Conure. She enjoys reading, painting, art, music festivals, going out to the lake or the beach, the mountains, and spending time with her daughter.

    Client Service Representative

    Dee Dee joined our team in 2004. Dee Dee is a native of North Carolina and has always lived in this part of the state. She enjoys getting to know our clients and watching their pets grow and learn.

    Dee Dee currently resides in Mocksville with her three dogs, Marley, Willow Grace, and Everleigh. She has one daughter and two grandchildren. She loves camping, shopping, and visiting the mountains and the beach.

    Senior Veterinary Assistant

    Sue joined the team in 2015. She is a US Army veteran and developed veterinary assistant skills through their veterinary services division. She enjoys getting to know our clients and patients and helping them grow through client education. 

    Sue currently resides in Statesville with her husband of 30+ years, Kenneth. They have two adult children and seven grandchildren. Sue enjoys woodworking and crafting in her spare time.

    Registered Veterinary Technician

    Anna joined our team in 2016. She attended Gaston College's veterinary medical technology program and is a Registered Veterinary Technician. Anna assists in surgery and dentistry daily, which is her passion. 

    Anna resides in Statesville with her husband, daughter, and many pets. Anna loves horses and gives riding lessons in her free time.

    Senior Veterinary Assistant

    Kamie joined our team in 2017. She is a certified veterinary assistant. Kamie enjoys all of the technical aspects of her position.

    Kamie resides on a farm in Hamptonville with her husband, David, and daughter, Oakley. She has five horses and four dogs. Kamie enjoys show jumping, trail riding, and traveling to historic places.

    Senior Veterinary Assistant 

    Alysha rejoined our team in 2018. She previously worked with Dr. Rutledge at the old location from 1992-2002. Alysha has an associate's degree in school aged education, but has devoted her life to working with animals. She loves working with our clients to help provide the best care for their furbabies.

    Alysha has four children and currently resides in Statesville. She has a wide variety of pet birds. She is a phenomenal artist and enjoys playing with her pets and watching TV.

    Mary joined our team in 2021. She had over 10 years of veterinary assistant experience prior to joining our team and is a certified pet groomer. She enjoys helping and interacting with our patients.

    Mary currently resides in Cleveland with her husband and five dogs. In her free time she enjoys riding motorcycles and participating in events and activities with the American Legion.

    Oscar is a 13 year old Toy Poodle. He joined our Team in July 2017. He hangs out in the admin office for most of the day and likes to keep our team in good spirits. He brings joy to everyone that meets him!

    Hospital Supervisor

    Shadow is a 13year old Domestic Shorthair. Shadow has been our clinic cat since she was a kitten. Now that she has access to the entire building she has deemed herself the hospital supervisor. She has the entire staff trained to give her attention when she wants it. We think, eventually, she will try to take on the ownership role.

    Office Assistant

    Sebastian is a two year old Birman. He became our clinic cat in 2023. He has been a great addition to our office! Often times he can be seen in the lobby greeting clients and ensuring their pet that this place isn't so bad. He, also, likes to assist in recovery by laying next to recovering surgical patients to help keep them warm.
